Expansion and Contraction
As materials warm up, the particle model of matters states that their particles move FASTER and SPREAD APART.
Expansion: Substances increase in volume as their
temperature rises.
Contraction: Substances decrease in volume as they cool.

These demonstrations deal with particles expanding and contracting rapidly. What do you think is happening in the pop can or with the barrel?

INTERACTIVE: Critical Challenge (PIG)
Use the information below to complete the critical challenge, looking at the expansion and contraction based on the particle model of matter. Your team must show me an appropriate design, describe the materials used, the time of year you will build, and a rationale for WHY you made these decisions.
